Join PACT-Ottawa in observing the International Day of the Abolition of Slavery on Sunday, December 2, 2018.  This year, speakers will discuss the issue of child and forced labour in global supply chains and what Canada is doing to respond to this form of “modern slavery”.  The event will also highlight an important service provider to survivors of human trafficking, A New Day.  Speakers include:
Simon Lewchuk, World Vision Canada’s Senior Policy Advisor on Child Rights and Protection. He leads World Vision’s government engagement efforts to address child and forced labour in global supply chains, and has authored several reports on the topic including Supply Chain Risk Report and Canada’s Child and Forced Labour Problem. He currently co-chairs the International Child Protection Network of Canada’s Policy Engagement Working Group.

Wendy Gee, Executive Director of A New Day Youth and Adult Services, a safe house for survivors of human trafficking.  Over the past 30 years, Wendy has worked in various capacities as a child welfare worker, with community agencies across Eastern Ontario and has held a number of senior executive roles, including Founder and Director of Om4Youth – a restorative yoga and expressive arts program for at risk youth and Executive Director of Turner Syndrome Society of Canada.

A member (to be determined) of the Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development will highlight its newly released report entitled Call to Action: Ending the use of all forms child labour in supply chains.

Refreshments will be served during the event.

General Admission: $10 (in advance https://esd2018.eventbrite.ca)
