The Freedom Relay
On Saturday, September 17, 2011, PACT-Ottawa hosted its first annual "Journey for Justice", as part of the Freedom Relay Canada initiative. The Freedom Relay is an effort to raise consciousness and mobilize local support to end human trafficking in communities across Canada. Funds raised from the event were shared between international, pan-Canadian and local programs for trafficked persons. Approximately forty people braved the brisk Ottawa morning on Relay Day to walk, run or cycle the 12.5 kilometre route through the heart of the nation's capital. Altogether we traveled over 500 km -- about the distance from Orleans (in Ottawa's east end) to Hamilton (at the western tip of Lake Ontario)!
For a glimpse of the fun we have had both years with the Ottawa leg of the national relay please see our Freedom Relay Slideshow.

Ottawa Event 2012
PACT-Ottawa hosted it’s second annual Freedom Relay on September 15, 2012. Fifty percent of the funds raised in Freedom Relay Canada will go towards prevention and recovery initiatives in source countries currently feeding Canada’s human trafficking industry. The other fifty percent of the funds raised went towards local anti-human trafficking initiatives within Canada. We had more than 40 participants attend the Freedom Relay, and were able to raise $2734.53. After expenses, our total revenue was $2539.47, and $1269.74 going toward PACT-Ottawa.
